Keith Tan brings with him more than 20 years of teaching, training and consulting experience having worked his way up into senior academic and consulting positions in a diverse range of expertise within the creative industry. His expertise and experience covers the disciplinary areas of creative thinking, creative problem solving, creative visualisation, design thinking and innovation. His teaching, training and consulting experience is backed by his professional and academic background in the disciplines of Architecture and Design that enable him to think visually, grasp complex ideas and concepts quickly and problem-solve creatively.
Keith holds a Master’s research degree in Design majoring in creativity and the design process from The University of New South Wales (UNSW, Australia) and a Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Studies from the National University of Singapore (NUS). In addition he holds professional qualifications in areas such as teaching, training, course design, development and assessment, and a Teacher in Higher Education accreditation by Staff Education Development Association (SEDA), UK.
Keith lectured at Temasek Design School (TDS) for 15 years from 1991 before he joined Raffles Education Corporation as Director and Dean of Design. At TDS, Keith worked collaboratively with UNSW in developing and tutoring the Design Management professional development courses for design professionals, the Art & Design Education professional development courses for secondary school Design & Technology and Art Teachers and undertook teaching assignments at Kingston University (UK), Rhode Island School of Design (US), UNSW, Central Academy of Fine Arts (China) and Polytechnic Ungku Omar (Malaysia). Keith also tutored in the UNSW’s Master of Design programme and the Lincoln University’s (New Zealand) Bachelor of Landscape Architecture course in Singapore.
In 2008, Keith founded Creative Nexus Centre for Design Studies (www.creativenexus.com.sg). He undertakes curriculum development assignments, gives guest lectures at institutes of higher learning and conducts corporate training and professional development programmes. Keith is currently Training Consultant for Creativity, Design Thinking and Innovation professional development courses at NUS Extension (the professional development centre of NUS). He conducts and assesses the train-the-trainer’s Advanced Certificate for Training and Assessment (ACTA) course at the Institute for Adult Learning.
