Course Content

This course explores the use of the intrinsic capability of our ordinary mental processes to generate ideas through improvisation.  This involves organising experiences and recalling memories in order to generate ideas creatively from the simplest to the most complex, and also to solve problems creatively.  The course will engage participants in creative improvisation strategies in the process of ideation that includes physical and mental synthesis of visual elements.

Course Aims

This course aims to:

  1. Introduce improvisation strategies for idea generation
  2. Provide an understanding for cognitive processes that aid creative improvisation and idea generation
  3. Develop creative improvisation skills for idea generation

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Relate cognitive processes to idea generation
  2. Generate creative ideas through improvisation strategies
  3. Improvise creatively to generate ideas

Learning And Teaching Strategy

The course comprises interactive group-work and practical exercises for skill practice, blended with lectures to develop understanding of the key principles and concepts.
