Course Objective

This course equips participants with the essential skills and knowledge of carrying out an in-house training programme.  The course addresses the principles and approaches of developing and conducting training programmes to give participants an array of tools for planning, designing, organising and delivering training programmes to help others in the organisation learn as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Course Content

This course covers the basics of developing and conducting a training programme effectively, with sensitivity and resourcefulness to make training programmes learner-focused, practical and energising by thinking in terms of the impact of the training on efficiencies for learners and outcomes for the organisation.  This includes strategies, tactics, techniques, methods and fresh new insights for delivering learning content and for facilitation of the learning process.  The course includes practice sessions that take reference from authentic tasks and scenarios from within the organisation for participants to learn and practise public speaking and facilitation skills.

Course Aims

This course aims to:

  1. Provide a framework to develop participants’ competencies in developing and conducting in-house training programmes.
  2. Provide a guide to the effective practice of developing and conducting an in-house training programme. 
  3. Refine and strengthen participants’ existing skills in leading training programmes.
  4. Provide a “toolbox” of concepts, methods and models for leading and facilitating training programmes.
  5. Develop participants’ confidence as training programme leader and trainer of their technical or administrative expertise.
  6. Enhance participants’ level of proficiency in public speaking and facilitation for training delivery.

Managers who will be leading training programmes within their area of expertise and who will be helping others in the organisation learn and apply new skills.

Learning Outcome

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Use different methods of developing and conducting in-house training programes with confidence which includes assessing learning needs, setting learning outcomes and planning for learning readiness.
  2. Strategise training plans, training design, training organisation and training delivery using an array of tools to keep learners involved, engaged and stimulated in their learning.
  3. Help others in the organisation learn their technical and administrative expertise efficiently and effectively.
  4. Identify their strengths and development needs to continuously develop their professional skills to help others in the organisation learn.
  5. Check for effectiveness of the training programmes that they conduct through different methods and levels of evaluation and identify areas for improvement.
  6. Expand their technical and administrative expertise within the organisation to include training programme leading, planning, presenting and facilitating.

Teaching and Learning Strategy

This course takes into account the needs and learning preferences of participants to build new skills and knowledge and to experiment with new and unfamiliar approaches to help others in the organisation learn.

Participants will have control over how, when, where, and how much they want to apply what they learn based on authentic tasks and scenarios within their technical and administrative expertise to plan, design, organise and deliver training programmes within the organisation.

Public speaking and facilitation skills practice are included in the delivery practice sessions designed for individual participants in the course.
